You hear a lot of buzz words around vaping and e-cigs. Some may be obvious, others not so much. So we put together a quick glossary of the most common terms used.
510/KR-808
Indicates the thread pattern of an electronic cigarette battery. 510 is the most commonly used threading among tanks and batteries, followed by the smaller KR-808.
Atomizer
Heating element used to vaporize e-liquids.
Analog
A tobacco cigarette.
Atomizer
Heating element used to vaporize e-liquids and similar mediums.
Automatic Battery
Automatically activates the heating element when the user begins puffing.
Battery
An e-cigs power source. Batteries power the atomizer, which heats e-liquid to produce vapor. There are different options, including rechargeable vapes, and portable chargers for your car.
Blank
An empty, reusable electronic cigarette cartridge that allows the user to fill it with any e-liquid.
Cartridge
Houses e-liquids and similar mediums in a small container that makes contact with an atomizer to produce vapor. (Also referred to as Cartomizers)
Clearomizer
A clear, tank-like e-liquid container that contains the atomizer unit and a drip tip.
Charger
A device used to charge an electronic cigarette’s internal or removable battery, typically connected to a power source via USB cable.
Drip Tip
A plastic or ceramic tip placed on top of tanks and clearomizers to improve comfort.
Dry Hit
A harsh, flavorless draw from an electronic cigarette; usually occurs when a tank or cartridge does not have enough e-liquid or its wicks are burned out.

E-Cig/eCig
An abbreviation for electronic cigarettes popular among experienced users.
E-liquid
Every e-cigarette or vaporizer uses a “medium” to create vapor. The most popular of course is a liquid (that can contain nicotine). E-liquid (or e-juice) is contained in pre-filled, disposable flavor cartridges and is also available in various sized bottles.
Juice/E-Juice
Another term for “e-liquid” used among enthusiast electronic cigarette users.
Milliamp Hours (mAh)
A rating commonly found on electronic cigarette batteries that describes how much energy it will hold before it needs to be recharged.
Manual Battery
Activates the heating element when the user presses and holds a button.
Mod
An electronic cigarette powered by removable batteries, usually size 18650.
Nicotine Strength
The concentration of nicotine in e-liquids, usually measured in a percentage of nicotine by mass. (Available on V2 in five nicotine strengths: 2.4%, 1.8%, 1.2%, 0.6% and zero nicotine.)
Propylene Glycol (PG)
A primary ingredient in e-liquids used to produce flavor and create a “throat hit” sensation.
Priming
A method of dampening new or otherwise dry wicking material in an atomizer with e-liquid, usually done before first using an electronic cigarette.
Puff Count
A measurement for a number of puffs or inhales a disposable electronic cigarette or vaporizer provides before the e-liquid is depleted.
Steeping
A flavor-enhancing process which allows e-liquids to age and its ingredients to mix over a period of two weeks.
Sub-ohm Vaping
A style of vaping using an atomizer that has coils with a resistance value of fewer than 1.0 ohms.
Tank
A container for e-liquid that also houses an atomizer, which is powered by a battery connected via threading.
Threading
Connector threads used on electronic cigarette batteries, cartomizers, and tanks. 510 is the most common among electronic cigarettes and tanks.
Throat Hit
A mild sensation in the back of the throat experienced when inhaling nicotine. The intensity of this sensation can be decreased or improved by changing the nicotine concentrations in e-liquids.
Vaper/Vaping
A vaper is someone who uses electronic cigarettes, usually an enthusiast or daily user.
Vaper’s Tongue
A term for Olfactory Fatigue used among electronic cigarette users to explain a temporary inability to taste the flavors when inhaling and exhaling vapor, usually caused by dehydration or repetitive use of a single flavor of e-liquid.
Vapor
The gaseous state of e-liquid after it has been heated by an electronic cigarette’s atomizer. This is the matter that is inhaled and exhaled when using an electronic cigarette.
Voltage
The amount of power sent from an electronic cigarette’s battery to the atomizer. Electronic cigarettes with high voltage settings can improve vapor production and enhance the throat hit sensation.
Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
A primary ingredient in e-liquids. Its thickness allows it to produce thicker vapor than Propylene Glycol but does not carry flavor as efficiently.
Vaporizer
A type of electronic device, sometimes shaped like electronic cigarettes, that can vaporize a variety of mediums, such as dry herb or loose leaf, waxes, and oils.
